Great product – works better than I had imagined!

I recently purchased this coffee maker for car camping/mountain biking trips around Wisconsin. I always wished I could have coffee on the mornings that I woke up at the campsite. Percolators do not work well (in my experience) so I had basically given up until I saw one of these at a sporting goods store. I did some review checking online and all I read was good reviews on this particular model (apparently some of the earlier models had some minor issues). It really does work great! I have been using it on my old 2-burner coleman camp stove (coleman fuel) that my dad gave me (it’s probably 30 years old). Contrary to what some people have said about it taking a long time to brew, some saying as much as 45 minutes, it took me about 10 minutes to brew a pot of coffee with cold water. I just cranked up the flame to high and it only took a couple mintutes for the water to heat up enough to start making it’s way up to the basket and start dripping into the pot. Makes coffee as good as your standard countertop-style coffee maker (slightly larger, maybe, because of the larger base) and practically works the same way. If you want coffee at the campsite I cannot imagine anything better than this.

Feels like home

This coffee maker will make you feel you are home. I use it with a two burner propane stove and after finding the spot where the carafe should sit (the handle must align with two dots market in the surface) is like brewing with a regular coffee maker. Furthermore I did buy it on sale 50% off regular price, at $22.00, I couldn’t get a percolator that good. This coffee maker will be perfect for a family camping, not so for backwood camping when you don’t need bulky stuff, and won’t have to worry of breaking the carafe.

Great, once you figure out the design flaw

The first two times I tried to use it the coffee did not drip through the filter into the carafe. I finally realized that its “pause and serve lever” is not well designed. At least with my device, when the filter basket is opened and then closed, the “pause and serve” lever does not always line up with the the trap door under the filter basket. So even when the carafe was in place, the trap door was not opening to let the coffee through. Once I figured that out, it worked quite well.

Awesome! Best campsite coffee maker ever.

It’s simple…we need coffee while camping – especially in the cold mornings. I’ve tried a bunch of different devices to make real brewed coffee (percolators, presses, I even designed and built one that ended up costing twice what this maker costs), but this is simply the best I’ve ever seen. It works just like your maker at home, but instead of plugging it in you put it on a camp stove. It’s perhaps a LITTLE slower than a plug-in maker. But it makes a perfect pot every time. One thing I did notice is that after 2 days of near-constant coffee-making, the bottom metal surface got pretty charred and even bubbled. I think I had my camp stove on too high and it began melting the metal a little (I probably figured that higher heat would mean faster coffee, but I don’t really think that is the case anyway). For how expensive camping gadgets usually are, I was blown away by how great this item was for the price. I would have expected to see this for at least twice what it cost. A must-have in my opinion.

Perfect as long as you have the space – coffee like home!

While percolators take up less space, the coffee is definitely subpar unless you have an expert watching and making it. We’ve been using this coffeemaker for about a year on family camping trips, and it’s been FANTASTIC – at home coffee quality. No trouble at all, just know that it will take quite a bit longer to brew coffee than it does at home. It does take up the space of a regular coffeemaker, so that is it’s primary downfall.

Great coffee maker

I have used this coffee maker for over a year in our motor home when we are dry camping. Just put it over the flame of the cook top and it starts perking in a minute or two. Makes great coffee. I have a thermos to keep the freshly made coffee hot, because there is not hot plate. Easy clean up…

Now I don’t have to drag my friends out each morning for a coffee run!

I was never a fan of percolators and french press coffee pots, but coffee is a morning ritual for me, and that doesn’t stop when I’m camping. I was tired of coffee grinds or oils mucking up my cup, so my friends were kind enough to put up with a morning coffee run to Stewart’s each morning to get me awake and functional. Bought this coffee maker for my Coleman 2 burner stove, 2 bags of Dunkin Donuts coffee, and I could not have been happier! I recommend filling it no higher than 10 cups and 5 decent sized scoops which served 6 people without a mess. Thanks to this coffee pot it went from me requiring a coffee run each morning to keeping 12 of my friends happy and awake during our camping trip. It does require a hot stove and takes about 15-20 minutes for 10 cups to finish brewing. Worth the wait if you ask me.

Love it!!

I love this coffee pot! I read all the reviews and bought it anyway, very glad I did. We are regular campers and I have used it every weekend for the past 4 weeks. We have had no problems with the product at all. Only bad thing I can say is I didn’t buy it sooner

Perfect Camping Coffee Maker

 February 4, 2011

This is the perfect camp coffee maker for us. We get it ready before going to bed then turn the burner on high when we wake up. It’s easy to tell when the brewing cycle ends because of the gurgling sound like a plug-in coffee maker does. At the end of the brewing cycle we turn the burner to low to keep the coffee warm. This is not recommended by the manufacturer but we have found it to work quite well. One thing you don’t want to do is forget to put water in before turning the burner on. We did this once and ruined it so we bought another just like it. Other than that, we have found no other no-nos and it makes great tasting coffee, just like at home.
